In-person and online tutoring with experienced educators.
Together we create a plan tailored to your student's individual needs and goals. Sessions may include mini-lessons, homework help, assessment preparation, content previews, enrichment or a mix of all of the above!
Life is busy! You can choose to schedule on a weekly, bi-weekly or as-needed basis. The option for virtual sessions provides added flexibility and convenience, utilizing the Zoom whiteboard for effective collaboration.
Our tutors are current and former educators with instructional expertise, strong content knowledge and a passion for teaching. They are dedicated to helping students build confidence and deepen their understanding.
Lead tutor, Margot Phelan, is a motivated educator with thirteen years of math teaching experience in public, charter, international and independent high schools. After graduating from Franklin and Marshall College, she started her career through Philadelphia Teaching Fellows, working in high-needs schools in North Philadelphia and earning her Masters in Secondary Education. Margot went on to teach abroad at Berlin Metropolitan School and back home at Vermont Academy and The Masters School in NY. She is currently a teacher at Kennebunk High School and resides in Portland, ME. Margot creates tailored math tutoring sessions that address students' individual needs with the goal of building confidence and mastering key concepts. Her approach aims for deep understanding and emphasizes exploration of multiple problem-solving approaches so that students learn to think critically and nimbly rather than memorizing and applying algorithms.
Please reach us at margotaphelan@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Margot tutors K-8 math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, AP Statistics and SAT/ACT/ISEE/IGCSE math preparation. If you are interested in a tutor for a course that is not listed, please reach out to connect with another tutor on the team.
That is up to you! Some students opt for mini-lessons while others want to complete a homework or classwork assignment they found challenging. We can also prepare for assessments, preview future content, or engage in enrichment that extends on what you are learning in the classroom. You will discuss your goals with your tutor to decide on the best approach, and sessions will be planned accordingly.
Yes! Preparing for a standardized test can be a daunting task. We utilize results from a diagnostic or mock exam to identify the skills and concepts that require reteaching or review and create lessons to target these areas. Students take additional practice tests throughout their preparation to assess progress and reveal where to focus our efforts.
Our prices vary depending on the level, duration and preparation required for each session. Families can schedule 45 minutes or 1 hour sessions on a weekly, bi-weekly or as-needed basis. Please contact us for more information.
All of our tutors are current or former teachers with many years of classroom experience.
We utilize the Zoom whiteboard and screensharing for online sessions. Both the student and teacher can annotate the screen to collaborate on solving problems. Students are encouraged to use an iPad with stylus or a basic drawing tablet in addition to pencil and paper. Web applications like Desmos and Geogebra are also used to visualize the math.
Reach out via email or text to schedule an initial phone or Zoom conversation: margotaphelan@gmail.com, (704) 880-0525. If it is a good fit, we will schedule your students' first session which will include an additional 15 minutes to get to know each another, discuss goals and outline logistics for future sessions.
